Online music video portal VEVO will continue to expand its reach next month, when the service expects to launch an iPhone app . In a new interview with Mashable, VEVO CEO Rio Caraeff confirmed that the VEVO app is nearly complete and should debut in the app store in July. The app focuses on the most popular music videos currently, but the most interesting aspect is that it can help users discover local artists. According to Mashable, the VEVO app recommends local artists based on your iPhone location.
VEVO apps for the Android and iPad are also in the works as well.
In related news, comScore has released its May 2010 data for online video viewership. A total of 183 million U.S. Internet users watched video online last month, with VEVO ranking in fourth place. VEVO had 430,257 videos streamed in May, giving the site a 1.3 percent share of total videos streamed online. VEVO also had over 45.5 million unique viewers in May, with an average of 9.4 videos per user.
