Detroit, Michigan - General Motors has dropped out of New United Motor Manufacturing Incorporated (NUMMI), its joint venture with Toyota. The NUMMI plant in California produced the Pontiac Vibe.

GM said that its ownership stake in NUMMI with Toyota will not be part of the “New GM,” as part of its long-term viability plan. After extensive analysis, GM and Toyota could not reach an agreement on a future product plan that made sense for all parties.

Accordingly, NUMMI will end production of vehicles for GM in August, and there are no future GM vehicles planned for a joint venture at this time. General Motors had previously announced that it would end production of the Pontiac Vibe at the end of August. The Toyota Matrix, a sister vehicle to the Vibe, will continue to be built in Cambridge, Ontario, the only plant where it is produced.

In a statement, GM said, “We have enjoyed a very positive and beneficial partnership with Toyota for the past 25 years, and we remain open to future opportunities of mutual interest.”

Grosse erreur de GM selon moi, une voiture populaire qui ne sera pas conservée!

Et pendant ce temps-là, Toyota aura une longueur d'avance sur les parts de marché de la Vibe
