DETROIT -- For the second year in a row, Dodge is offering a limited-edition Challenger that cannot be driven on the street.

In fact, it lacks such typical features as airbags, power windows and an audio system -- 1,000 pounds of stuff that just slows the car down.

This Challenger is meant for one place: the drag strip.

The car is the 2010 Dodge Challenger Drag Pak, equipped with a 6.1-liter Hemi V-8 and a choice of a six-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission. The Drag Pak is engineered by Chrysler Group’s Mopar Service, Parts and Customer Care group. Horsepower and torque figures were not released.

Last year, 100 cars were built.

“We’re proud of our drag-racing heritage at Mopar, and we will continue to support our drag-race customers where they compete,” Pietro Gorlier, CEO of Mopar Service, Parts and Customer Care, said in a statement.

The car stickers for $39,999. Production begins this summer.

The Dodge Challenger Drag Pak features specific drag-race components, including composite lift-off hood with functional scoop, polycarbonate door windows, lightweight cooling module with electric fan, manual steering, special lightweight front-brake assemblies and cable-operated throttle linkage and pedal assembly.

Order forms are available at mopar.com or from the Mopar Direct Connection Tech Line at 888-528-HEMI.
